Titled - "Hidden" - This coastal fine art photography print shows a wooden house on stilts with an orange drape in a window in a tiny fishing village called Finn Slough in British Columbia, Canada. Captured on an overcast day, this print not only brings in the PNW vibe but also historic charm to your home or office.
Finn Slough was founded in 1888 by Finnish settlers. They worked as coal miners and loggers but wanted to buy land close to the Fraser River so they could also do fishing. All fishing was done manually at the time, including rowing the boat, setting the fishing nets and pulling them back out again, day after day. Business was good as there were massive salmon runs down the river. Soon relatives followed, with uncles, cousins and brothers choosing to leave Finland and settle in Canada. Today, only 30 residents remain and live in houses that are either floating or built on pilings.
I took this photo on an overcast day in May 2022. It was my first visit to the location. When capturing these images, I was taken in by the history and the life of the residents. The pace was certainly slow, and it felt as if I was stepping into a different world altogether.
